Nestled at 417 Healdsburg Ave, this enchanting and vibrant bakery is the epitome of French culinary charm, seamlessly blending artisanal baking with the warm ambiance of a café. From the moment you step in, you are greeted with the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked bread, pastries, and brewed coffee, inviting you to indulge in a delightful experience.

The star of the menu—lavishly highlighted by customers—is undoubtedly the sourdough bread and ciabatta. As customer Michael V. aptly puts it, "It's all about the bread!" The flavors are rich, with each bite embodying the craftsmanship that goes into every loaf. It's no wonder patrons travel far and wide to savor this bread, a testament to its exceptional quality and taste.

As you explore the café, you'll discover a menu that delights brunch lovers and lunch-goers alike. Guest reviews consistently praise the onion soup, which is described as "rich and comforting," perfectly complementing a sunny day on their cozy patio. Elizabeth S.'s experience of relishing the vibrant avocado toast emphasizes the fresh ingredients that elevate each dish.

The Monte Cristo sandwich has gained a loyal following for its deliciousness, packing layers of flavor that are sure to satisfy any appetite. Eva B. notes how the "amazing" bread makes the extra jam unnecessary, showcasing the skillful baking that defines Costeaux. However, even this paradise of flavor has its moments of constructive feedback, with a few reviewers suggesting that certain pastries, like the almond croissant, may not always meet the lofty expectations set by the other dishes.

Under the talented direction of Chef Jorge Flores, formerly of Campo Fina, Costeaux continues to innovate while honoring its French roots. Recent menu additions feature seasonal local dishes bursting with fresh flavors. From the hearty farro salad loaded with roasted vegetables to delectable sandwiches like the Heritage sandwich, there’s something that caters to every palate.

What truly enhances the Costeaux experience is the warm and attentive service—a critical part of any memorable meal. As Mary V. shares, the staff is not only friendly but also dedicated to ensuring each customer has a delightful experience, making re-visits inevitable. Monte cristo sandwich was delicious. Frankly didn't need the extra jam because the bread was amazing. Also friend tried the Ruben which was not as good as the Monte cristo. With the salad it was just very refreshing. Banana nut muffin was another yummy item here. Beautiful ambience here for a cup of coffee and catch up with a friend!

Good was soooo good! Had the quiche and my daughter had the eggs Benedict. Probably best Benedict either of us had. She actually finished the whole thing which she never does. Coffee was good, nice and strong. Almond croissant was a disappointment. Very doughy and not light and flakey as expected. Overall will come back next time up in Healdsburg!

I just found out that Chef Jorge Flores (formerly of Campo Fina) is now at Costeaux! And he and the team are offering an expanded menu of local, seasonal dishes. Yes, please! Friends and I recently ordered takeout lunch. I had to call a few times in order to reach a human - almost went in to order in person - but eventually reached someone and our order was placed and ready within 20 minutes. I loved the farro salad from Campo Fina so I was excited to see a similar offering now on the Costeaux menu: FARRO SALAD: roasted carrots, broccoli florets, snap peas, pea shoots, ricotta salata, citrus vinaigrette *light, fresh, full of green goodies, savory, zesty, filling from the farro, and oh-so-satisfying My friends ordered the following: VICKY'S CHICKEN SALAD: mixed baby head lettuce, achiote marinated chicken, avocado, homemade pickled jalapenos + carrots, kidney beans, queso fresco, citrus vinaigrette *the chicken was packaged separately to maintain freshness. Friend loved it. HERITAGE sandwich: journeyman meat salumi, sonoma brinery pickles, pepperoncini's, jarlsberg cheese, avocado, onions, lettuce, house made aioli, on a Costeaux sour roll + side salad *a substantial sandwich and side salad for $19 is a deal around here. Friend loved it! This is right up my alley and I'll be trying it soon! So pumped to discover a new lunch option. We'll be adding Costeaux into our rotation!

What a fantastic spot! Beautiful ambiance, excellent service, and incredible food! We ordered the eggs Benedict and it was out of this world! Also had the chocolate chip cookie, which was also delicious. Love that there is outdoor seating, especially since we came with our dog! Highly recommend this place.

My friend wanted to try this place, so our "party of 5" :) went for breakfast/brunch. They have two entrances; a back alley entrance and the main front entrance, that is way nicer! This bakery has been around since 1923 and has won numerous awards. In addition to being in the Guinness World Record for Largest Pumpkin Pie made awarded in 2003. The ambiance and decor felt like you were in a French cafe, I can only imagine. Nice large cafe with high ceilings. Inside and outside seating available. All the servers were friendly and polite. Isabella waited on our table. Special shoutout to Kelina, who was helping customers at the counter. Kelina was very friendly, courteous, and sweet to all her customers. You could tell she loved what she was doing, not only interacting with her customers in describing her favorites or the most popular cakes and pastries. Awesome customer service! She's a keeper. Give her a raise! We ordered the following... Croissant: Butter croissant, free-range egg, applewood smoked bacon, hass avocado, cheddar cheese + seasonal fresh fruit. My friend enjoyed her sandwich and said the croissant was nice and buttery. The fresh fruit was honeydew, canteloupe, and pineapple. Bread, Butter, + Jam (full): assorted breads, butter, housemade jam (mixed berry). Good assortment to taste their different breads. French Onion Soup. This version was sweeter and rich, as opposed to other French onion soups, which are usually rich but saltier. Fingerling Potatoes: smashed + fried topped with chorizo, green onions, cilantro, chipotle aioli, two poached eggs. My friend really enjoyed this dish. All the ingredients and flavors went well, and after popping the eggs and letting all the yummy yolk run over everything, it made the dish so much richer. He had to mop all of it up with pieces of bread. He would order this again! Best Morning Burger: 4oz angus grass fed meat, spinach, chipotle aioli, cheddar cheese, avocado, sunny side egg on a Costeaux English muffin + country potatoes. The country potatoes were crispy, like little French fries. As I took my first bite of my burger, the yolk on my egg broke and ran down the patty and muffin, making it a messy but even tastier sandwich. It lived up to its name. Oatmeal Cookie. There are walnuts and cranberry in it. It's a slightly moist and chewy cookie. I liked this cookie a lot. We also ordered a Morning Bun, Almond Croissant, and Plain Croissant, and we we all sampled. The consensus was that they were all good. The croissant wasn't as flakey or as buttery as I've had. Cappuccino. My wife said it had good milk foam. I admit this was pretty good as I didn't add any sugar to it. Mocha: My wife thought her mocha with whipped cream was just ok. House Coffee: Good, but we wished we got the refill we asked for. My friend bought me a piece of Princess Cake: Two layers of white chiffon cake filled with bavarian custard, raspberry conserve & whipped cream enrobed in marzipan. Wow, this was a decadent cake. I can see why they won a Best of Show award for this cake. Sooo good! The next time we are here, the carrot cake is calling my name!
